Recommended Horse Blankets

Want to cut down on your horse feed bills in the winter? Want to spend less time grooming and more time riding? Then blanket your horse! Horses burn hundreds of calories just to keep warm in the winter months. In addition to generating heat, those calories are used to grow a thick coat of hair to keep warm, meaning you have to spend a LOT of time grooming your horse before you can even think of putting a saddle on him. Do yourself a favor: Blanket your horse. You'll save time and money.

Rambo Original Turnout Blankets
Hands down, these are the best for your money because they last for years. They are incredibly tough, even for horses who like to "party hard" in the pasture. This one is good for winter weather. Waterproof and lined for warmth, your horse can stay warm while frolicking away in the snow or standing still in an unheated barn.

Rambo Supreme Vari-Layer Turnout Blankets
The clever thing about these blankets is that they have a detachable inner layer that can be added or removed to fit the temperature. The hood is also detachable. Sturdy, rugged. Rambos last for years.

Rambo Turnout Sheets are just as tough. This one is good for cool or rainy weather.

Amigo Turnout Blankets
Less expensive than Rambo, but reliably tough. This is a medium weight blanket. If you live where winter temperatures drop very low (below 20 degrees), I'd recommend buying two rather than buying a medium and a heavy weight. That way, you can just double blanket when the temps drop very low rather than having to switch out blankets.

Dover Saddlery Rider's International Turnout Blankets
Less expensive than either Rambo or Amigo, but reliably tough. This is a medium weight blanket. If you live where winter temperatures drop very low (below 20 degrees), I'd recommend buying two rather than buying a medium and a heavy weight. That way, you can just double blanket when the temps drop very low rather than having to switch out blankets.

Saxon Mesh Fly Turnout Sheets
Some horses just can't handle fly bites. The bites raise welts, leaving the poor horse feeling miserable and rolling around on the ground trying to scratch. Fly spray usually does the trick, but not for really sensitive horses. This is a pretty decent fly sheet that will keep the flies off.

Derby Originals Horse Fleece Cooler
Fleece coolers are great things to have on hand. Made from lightweight anti-pill polyester fleece that is perfect for safely cooling off your horse after a workout, or to use an an extra layer on chilly days. Wick-easy polar fleece fabric features a hydrophilic quality that combines with body temperature to draw away and evaporate excess sweat and moisture through the breathable fabric.
